The current northwest swell will gradually lower today. Warning level surf will remain possible early this morning along the north and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai, and north facing shores of Maui. Surf is then expected to remain at advisory levels during the remainder of the day and this evening, before an extremely large, long period northwest swell builds late tonight then peaks Saturday afternoon and evening. Very large surf well above the warning level is expected from Saturday through at least Sunday afternoon. For the north facing shores of the Big Island, surf is expected to drop to near minimal advisory levels today and this evening, but then is expected to rise well above advisory levels, possibly to near or above warning levels, late tonight and Saturday, continuing through at least Sunday afternoon.
HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST SUNDAY
* SURF...10 to 15 feet along north facing shores of the Big Island today. Surf is expected to rise well above advisory levels, possibly near or above warning levels, late tonight and Saturday as a new extremely large northwest swell moves in. * TIMING...surf will slowly subside today into tonight, then rise rapidly late tonight and Saturday as another extremely large northwest swell moves in. This swell and surf is forecast to peak Saturday afternoon and evening, with advisory or possibly warning level surf then expected to continue through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Moderate...Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
